Oct. 24 - Annual Family Weekend Concert
MIT's President Reif will narrate Copland's "Lincoln Portrait" with us!! Also, included on our half program (FJE is the second half of this concert) is a fabulous transcription of Brahms' Academic Festival Overture, and also Vaughn Williams' wonderful English Folk Song Suite.

Nov. 22
We are collaborating with the great MIT Concert Choir on a performance of Howard Hanson's "Song of Democracy.", plus, Persichetti's Symphony no. 6, Respighi's Huntingtower, Bach/Amis Contrapunctus 12 from The Art of Fugue, MIT's Keeril Makan's "Infinite Corridor (written for MITWE in 2011), and a contemporary-jazz influenced piece call "Jug Blues and Fat Pickin'" by Don Freund.

March 13
Jamshied Sharifi's Awakening. This piece and MITWE's first performance of it are the subject of the 2014 Emmy-winning documentary “Awakening: Evoking the Arab Spring Through Music.” An excerpt from the documentary will be shown prior to MITWE's performance of the piece. Other works on the program include Holst, Second Suite in F; Schuman, Chester Overture; and music by Percy Grainger. MITWE alumni will play with us on the Holst to add to the celebratory nature of this concert. A new work by an MIT student composer may be included in this concert as well. Stay tuned. Jamshied Sharifi, '83, will be in residence with us for three days for the dress rehearsal and performance!

May 1
Another collaboration with the MIT Concert Choir - Randall Thompson's stirring "Testament to Freedom", with Dr. William Cutter, guest conductor. Also, one of the greatest jazz saxophonists/composers of his generation (and a MacArthur "Genius" grant fellow) Miguel Zenon will write a new work for MITWE!! The project will start in September with Miguel meeting all of us and it will culminate with the premiere of his new piece on May 1. Other music on this concert includes an incredible fanfare by Ken, and music by Grainger and Ives.
